Does Kenya need a National Dress ?

Doesn’t she look fabulous??

How fabuloso would it be if Kenyans dressed in a gorgeous, unique and new national outfit, complete with all the attendant accessories?

How sweet would it be if when you walked any street in the world, people would instantly recognize you as Kenyan?

Do you think it would add extra spice to “Najivunia kuwa Mkenya?

So why have Kenyans rejected the new outfit?

a] Is it the exorbitant $ 100.00 price tag?

b] Is it the supposed lack of originality?

c] Are Kenyans just apathetic to such mundane matters?

d] The outfit is not representative of Kenya?

e] We simply do not need a national dress?

What say you?

firts of all the chile looks sawa...if you remove the accessories you will be left with nothing other than a brown top and red bottom.

seriously do we want to copy an ugly school uniform as our 'national dress'?

Josh, we don't need a 'national dress'. That limits our creativity. We can do with national colors - black/red/green or a national symbol - the shield that appears on the flag; so anyone who wears anything that has either or a combination of these will be considered to be in 'national dress'. cheers.

3N: but if you remove the accessories it ceases to be our national dress ... it becomes something different - i think the look is "too maasai" not that i have anything against the maasai, as a matter of fact i love their stuff but i think its impossible to get an aggregation of tribal colours to come up with a good looking single identity.

Mchokozi: Does it "limit" ama "test" our creativity? But I agree, any attempts at a national dress should come from teh national colours and symbols, not individual tribal attire ...

WE DO NOT NEED A NATIONAL DRESS.why? because we can identify ourselves (tribally) by our favourite colours and way of dressing.if u meet any man in leather jacket and savco jeans he is kyuk. too much pink and red goes to kalenjins while yellow frilly dresses and attire identifies one as kao (mwangi are u kao?), for lunjes the legs speak volumes no need for uniform dress code.
the national dress above is too much maasai as u said.

Whereas i do not really like the national dress created, i believe Kenya does need something that we as Kenyans can identify ourselves by,not exactly a Masai outfit or something with the Kenyan flag colors but a design that is creative and KENYAN!For example,a kimono comes in various shapes, designs colors but one can still link that to the Japanese culture :D
